Magnificent Seven take on Great North Run
Seven members of staff and super supporter Vicky raised £5,700 taking on the Great North Run for UHL charity. The money raised by Alison, Heather, James, Julie, Kathryn, Mark, Michaela, and Vicky helped us go the extra mile for our patients and their loved ones while in our care.
Vicky said: "Dad has had diabetes since he was 12 and a side effect is sight loss. Over the last few years, he has been treated at St. Paul’s Eye Unit at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, who have desperately been trying to save his declining sight. I ran the Great North Run to raise money for St Paul's, as without them my dad would be totally blind."
In memory of Jordan Welsby
Jordan was involved in a road traffic accident in St Helen’s on Boxing Day and was rushed to the Major Trauma Unit at Aintree Hospital. He was cared for in the Critical Care Unit but sadly passed away five days later.
In his memory, Jordan’s family held a Charity Night at Blackbrook Rugby Club on what would have been Jordan’s 30th Birthday to raise funds for the charity. With over 200 tickets sold and more than £10,000 in raffle prizes, family and friends were overwhelmed with the support they have received. Jordan’s father Tony Welsby said: “We miss Jordan every single day and wanted to do something special to mark his landmark birthday and celebrate his life.
Throughout his treatment the staff were so caring and were a constant source of support through such a difficult time. We know the charity is grateful for any donations to help them keep doing the important work they do in caring for critical patients and supporting their families.” We are so grateful to the Welsby family and friends for thinking of us during such a tough time. RIP Jordan.
The Sunshine Group KAVS News
The Sunshine Group is a breast cancer support group for patients of Aintree and Royal Liverpool Hospitals that helps women who are going through breast cancer from diagnosis, treatment and beyond. Led by Ann Coffey and supported by an amazing team of volunteers, they meet monthly and offer emotional support and a range of activities including guest speakers, health trainers and days out. The group also provides signposting to other agencies who may also offer support.
Through trained, volunteer therapists, patients being treated at the hospitals are also offered lymphedema hand, arm, feet and leg massages, Reiki and reflexology. Almost all the volunteers are breast cancer survivors who want to give back after coming through their own journeys.

Balls to It
Thanks to Daley Hollingsworth, and his friends and family, who raised £1,722 from their ‘Balls To It’ charity football match. Following Daley’s testicular cancer diagnosis back in 2012, the team has regularly raised funds and awareness via this charity match.
Knit & Natter Weave Magic for Patients
The wonderful Knit & Natter Group get together to create blankets for end-of-life patients who are cared for by our SWAN team. We feel that each blanket represents a legacy of love and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on both the knitters and those that receive a blanket.
